Compute

There Are So Many Questions

Which CPU? What application? How does Licensing work? What will I need for storage? Should I virtualize?” RTM can help you with the answers!

The past five years have seen more changes in the traditional computing technology world than we’ve seen in the decades before! Sure, Servers, PCs and mobile devices still proliferate, but the need to use them more efficiently, to make the computing resources available to our staff independent of platform or location and the need to make sure the services are available in a true 7×24 fashion have changed how we all use these technologies dramatically!

The data center as we know it no longer exists. The concept of a single (or two) rooms with servers dedicated to specific applications, each running their own applications with dedicated local storage, just no longer applies! The idea that we can only gain access to our applications by “logging in at the desktop” is ancient history. In today’s world, the driving factors have become Security, Scalability, Speed to deployment, Total Cost of Ownership, Resiliency and Security (yes first and last is always security).

Today’s data center is no longer defined by sq feet and proper cooling. Our applications are often hosted by the software vendor themselves, maybe several or many of them. Our core business apps could be on local virtualized servers but increasingly they are hosted off site, either in a colo or possible in services such as AWS or Azure.

These changes have often simplified equipment and licensing but have created a labyrnth that as IT Professionals we have to own and navigate. Not only do hosted applications offer complexity they are often ordered and implemented by the business line owner rather than an IT Pro who is also concerned about topics such as Security, data retention, backup and disaster recovery solutions.

IT now not only needs to support and own these applications they need to own the risk of corporate data being who-knows-where in this every increasingly security focused world!

Of course, anything that has been designed to meet all your business needs can be complex to deploy and support, and that’s why RTM has invested heavily in our staff to make sure you get the best performance from your virtualized environment.
